PREP 4 – Andrews/Montini 0
What better way to put frustrations behind than to experience the fanfare of Senior night. Outstanding decorations, bigger than life player portraits, personal introductions and emotional meetings with parents on the ice brought out a bigger perspective to the PREP experience. Now, to top it off with a win would take the cake.  Even though A/M had more shots, PREP never seemed in danger. Barker played solid in goal, turning away the few tough shots and letting nothing easy get by him. PREP scored late in the 1st as Dolan, playing defense because of the roster jumble, took a cross pass from D partner Vannatta and went coast to coast up the left boards, firing a wrister high right. Minutes later, on a penalty kill, Behles beat the defenders down ice on a dump, met the goalie behind the net, took the puck away, then found a trailing Fracassi in front with an empty net for the 2-0 1st period lead. The second period and half of the 3rd languished in slow action as PREP struggled to get continuity with the added JV Seniors. But Dolan and Carbone got some insurance working a 2 on 2 give and go, with Carbone finishing 5 hole. PREP completed the dream Senior Night with the JV’s Alex Winnick slamming home a Behles shot rebound and holding out the final two and a half to record the shutout victory.

Barrington 5 – PREP 3
For the battle against the 1st place Broncos everyone wondered if the tournament team or the more recent team would show up.  It turned out they both would. PREP got on the board first as a quick breakout from Wachlin sprung Popp and Roll on a 2 on 1. A Popp dish would have found Roll with an open net except a diving Barrington trailer deflected it in for an own goal. Even play throughout the rest of the period had visions of Cinci dancing in their heads. Early in the second Roll won a faceoff to Wachin just outside the Barrington blue line. As he crossed and shot the advancing defenders let Roll slip behind them and put back the rebound. A minute late Thompson hit Popp at the centerline for a 1 on 1. Curling wide and dragging the puck Popp waited for help and found a trailing Catalano alone in the slot for a 3-0 lead. Barrington’s immediate timeout was opportune as the complexion changed from there. With PREP strangely backing off instead putting the hammer down, the Broncos scored within 17 seconds to give them some life and again with a minute 28 remaining to gain the momentum. They tied it 45 seconds into the 3rd and suddenly PREP was in trouble. But they snapped out of their doldrums and started to make a game of it again. Unfortunately they had dallied too long as a Barrington shot from the blue line deflected awkwardly off a PREP defender and over Gaiten’s shoulder to put them up with 4 minutes remaining. PREP pulled their goalie in the final minute, with the pressure causing a Barrington penalty. Skating 6 on 4, PREP got 2 golden opportunities to tie but a 3rd try was intercepted and sent down into their empty net to close out the disappointing finish to the contest.

PREP 4 – Deerfield 3
Still smarting from the Fremd debacle, PREP got a chance to get back on track before a big matchup with Barrington the next night. Deerfield was a physical team with some firepower. However, PREP struck first as Carbone crossed to a streaking Dolan who got a step on the last defender and snapped a high hard one. A few minutes later Roll intercepted a clear attempt and clanged the iron, but Popp was there to stuff back in the loose biscuit for a 2-0 lead after the 1st.  But prosperity was fleeting as Deerfield scored twice in the first 2 minutes of the 2nd to tie, the first on a rebound put back and second on a breakaway. Then they scored again at the 6 minute mark after a board battle win resulted in an open man in the right circle. PREP stemmed the tide as Popp wheeled in the left corner and found Wachlin at the top of the circle for a quick snapper and a tie game. PREP pulled ahead early in the third when a charging Carbone got hooked down but a trailing Behles scooped up the loose puck and with one move backhanded in the eventual game winner. The rest of the way was a nail biter as PREP was sloppy but got the job done.

1-21-12
Fremd 6 – PREP 3
After a successful tournament in Cincinnati, PREP had the confidence to finish the Metro league in style. But with the week’s practice called off and a warm up MIT game cancelled due to a snowstorm, the question was whether they were still hot. It seemed so as a Roll to Popp to Paglia 3 on 2 lit the lamp after 19 seconds. But things went downhill from there as Fremd had the energy PREP lacked and all the bounces went the wrong way. Fremd scored 3 in the first and had most of the action until 3 minutes left in the 2nd when Behles dug a puck out of a side board scrum and skated to the net and scored to bring PREP within 1. But a bad change with 10 seconds left allowed Fremd to convert a 2 on 1 to take some of the wind.  Early in the 3rd a nice cycle found Dolan with the puck who then slipped cross crease to Carbone for the roof shot to pull within one again. But the sail collapsed as Fremd scored a minute later, then once more late for the take down, putting PREP’s chances of making it to the Scholastic Cup a bit more difficult.

1-16-12
Dallas, TX Penguins 5 – PREP 0
If at the beginning of the Mid Winter Classic tournament in Cincinnati you would have said PREP would be in the finals, sweeping their pool play games, I don’t think there would have been a sole believer. Yet here they were. The Penguins had also swept their pool opponents, not scoring as many goals as PREP, but giving up a lot less. They were big and very skilled. The Penguins got on the board first finding a cutter at the doorstep. PREP had counter play all period but the final 3 minutes turned into disaster. First a PREP tying goal was disallowed. Then the Penguins scored 4 on 4 at 2:18 after a PREP power play penalty took away their advantage. Dallas got another at 1:48 on their PP. The backbreaker was their 4th tally with 1 second remaining to finish the period up 4-0. PREP held tough in the second but couldn’t take advantage of late power plays. They then gave up a shorty with only 21 seconds in the period to go down 5-0. PREP never gave up, playing Dallas relatively even in the 3rd, but they couldn’t get one past the Penguin net minder, who was on his game all day. While the Championship result was disappointing, winning 4 and playing a 1-0 game with the Penguins for 2 periods in the finals, the tournament and entire travel experience had to be considered a tremendous success. And the kids had a lot of fun, too.

1-15 12
PREP 5 – Huskies IL Central States 4
While this should have been a mismatch, the come from behind win earlier in the day gave PREP a lot of confidence. And the Huskies had fallen to the Dallas Penguins, which put a chink in their armor. PREP scored first as Popp crossed to Wachlin who beat the lone defender and the goalie low. Huskies got it back winning a backboard battle and finding a sniper in front, tying it at 1 after 1. PREP took the lead early in the 2nd as Carbone put in a rebound off a Dolan shot. Huskies tied it seconds later from the right circle. PREP went ahead again on a poke check steal by Dolan who slipped it cross crease to Carbone for the tip in. Huskies evened up in the final seconds converting a 2 on 2. In the 3rd Popp dished to Vannatta in the high slot, who’s blast was stopped but jammed back in by Wachlin. Huskies tied yet again as Gaitens stopped a cherry picker breakaway but couldn’t recover to handle the trailer. With 2:39 remaining Popp spun out of the corner and found Wachlin at the left circle who then snapped a 5 hole finisher for his hat trick and eventual game winner. The Huskie calvary put on the charge, but Gaitens and the defensive corp clogged the slot to preserve the 5-4 upset and propel PREP into the Mid Winter Classic finals.

1-15-12
PREP 5 – Huntsville, AL Chargers 4
The Charges hadn’t scored in their first day of competition, so PREP may have come out over confident.  They certainly looked flat to start and Huntsville made them pay. A bad line change gave the Bears an early breakaway and score. At the midway point a well executed Bears 2 on 1 gave them a 2-0 lead. Then a late point blast re-direct put them up 3-0 by the end of the 1st.  Having been there before PREP regrouped and picked up the pace. 3 minutes in and on a power play Popp grabbed a stymied Roll wrister and circled around the net beating a diving net minder with a roof shot. 3 minutes later Popp picked up a loose puck in the neutral zone after a Wachlin poke check and powered around the last sentry, finding space on the near side to pull PREP within 1. Their momentum was slowed however with 2 late period penalties. In the middle of the 3rd PREP got 40 seconds of 5 on 3 and another minute 20 of man up, but couldn’t tie. Worse, they missed the end of the PP as a Charger home run found the just released villain for a breakaway and score for a 2 tally deficit with time getting short. A minute later Popp wrestled a puck off the boards getting it to Carbone at the centerline who then found Wachlin at the blue line for a mini break and score. With 6 minutes remaining PREP received another gift getting a minute of 5 on 3. It only took 20 seconds to tie as Vannatta got 2 shots from the high slot, the second rebound stuffed in by Carbone. And 20 seconds after that, still on the power play, a sweet Popp to Wachlin to Carbone sequence gave PREP their first lead. The Chargers had 1 last gasp, however, as Barker had to make a desperation post to post stab with 2 seconds left to secure the 5-4 comeback win.

1-14-12
PREP 5 – Knoxville, TN Jr. Ice Bears 2
It had been awhile since PREP had played 2 in 1 day. With the majority of the team driving in that morning, energy would be in question. The Bears were the only Minor team in the tourney, but they were skilled and struck first on a long shot from just inside the blue line. It took to late in the period for PREP to even the score as a wide Dolan shot rebounded off the backboard to Carbone for a quick stuff. Early in the second Carbone picked up a loose puck in the neutral zone and powered around the lone defender to get his 2nd from the top of the arc.  Shortly after he recorded a hat trick as a wide point shot ricocheted off his shin pad for a 3-1 lead. Later. Popp came out from behind the net and found Roll at the far post for the flip in. The Bears kept it interesting getting a breakaway tally with 31 seconds left in the 2nd. The third featured special teams play as both sides started taking penalties. But the only score was at even strength by Fracassi who picked up a deflected clearing attempt in the left circle and snapped a low one home to complete the 5-2 victory. PREP was 2-0 after the first day and looking good.

1-14-12
PREP 5 – Pittsburgh, PA Amatuer Penguins 1
Arriving in Cincinnati to find themselves the only HS team among 1 AA Minor and 5  AA Major travel squads at the Mid Winter Classic did not garner confidence. If nothing else, it would be a good test to see where they stood. They just hoped they could hang close. PREP took the first penalty at 9:14, holding out until the final 14 seconds as Pitt cashed in to take the first lead. PREP converted their own power play minutes later as Carroll corralled a rebounded Jasinski slapper, backhanding it in to tie, as the 1st ended knotted at 1. PREP struck early in the 2nd as Roll found a deflected puck in the left circle and fed it to Popp at the right post for an easy tap in. At the 4 minute mark, Popp got it deep to Wachlin who slipped a defender, getting alone in front for a roof shot.  PREP killed a 5 on 3 disadvantage late to hold the lead 3-1 after 2.  At the mid point of the 3rd Roll won an o-zone face off picked up and fired by Wachlin from the top of the left circle to take a 4-1 lead.  Behles then found Carbone in the waning seconds to put the icing on the surprising 5-1 win. PREP killed the final 7 of 8 penalties in this one as Barker and the defense held tough.

1-11-12
PREP 4 – Maine 2
Maine has always been tough on PREP. Their physical style was a great equalizer. In spite of it, PREP scored first as Wachlin cycled down to Popp who cut out front, took a wack, but backhanded it in anyway. They extended the lead as Wachlin put back a Catalano slap shot rebound. PREP’s last second troubles surfaced again as Maine got one with 21 tics left. PREP got another early in the second as Popp outraced a Maine defender to a loose puck and pushed it ahead for a Wachlin breakaway. Maine converted a power play midway through the 3rd to pull within one. But Paglia stuffed in a Catalano deflected shot to buy some insurance with a minute left, virtually icing the contest.

1-8-12
PREP 6 – Crystal Lake South 6
It was a long wait to get another shot at CLS after their total waxing of PREP at their last meeting. Sometimes you have to be careful what you ask for as CLS scored within 18 seconds. They got another later to take a 2-0 lead after 1 with PREP looking slow. PREP tied it early in the second on an individual effort by Wachlin, winning a neck and neck race. But the next 58 seconds was disaster as PREP gave up 3 quick ones to fall behind 5-1. But then something strange happened as over the next 8 minutes the flood gates opened. First Carbone put back a Mitchell shot rebound. Then Mitchell went end to end. Then Carbone found Behles in front. Paglia scored a power play goal after a D’Souza shot from a Carroll pass. Then Popp slipped a defender after a Catalano breakout pass, finishing the unbelievable comeback, taking a 6-5 lead into the 3rd. That was 6 goals in the 2nd period. Unfortunately they couldn’t get another as CLS evened it up with 6 minutes remaining. PREP had a man advantage for the final 41 seconds, but CLS was able to salvage the tie after letting the game almost slip away.

1-7-12
Glenbard 3 – PREP 3
The annual Winter Classic was upon us with all the expectations of another special event. After a brief warm spell the temperature was in the high 20s. Good weather for playing and not too bad for viewing. With bellies full of sub sandwiches the players took the rink. The see saw affair started with PREP striking first midway through the first as Roll redirected a point shot from Catalano. GB tied it late finding an open man in the slot. PREP took the lead in the 2nd as Dolan got it to Behles who got it to Carbone cutting from the right circle, beating the goalie to the left post. Gb tied it a minute later converting a 3 on 1. PREP took the lead late as Popp saucered to Roll in the slot for a backhand forehand. But GB got a equalizing breakaway with only a second remaining. The 3rd period was white knuckle time as each team had chances but neither could pull ahead by the final buzzer. For fun and the Snowman, a three round shoot out ensued. Glenbard prevailed scoring the photo op with the new trophy.

1-5-12
PREP 8 – Deerfield 6
PREP hadn’t yet met any of the Northern contingents of the MIT so they were unsure what to expect. What they got was a battle.  PREP struck early as a perfect Mitchell breakout to Wachlin and redirect to Roll started a 2 on 1 that ended with Popp finding the upper left corner to get the first goal of the new year. PREP then got another as a Jasinski point shot was re-directed by Wachlin then finished by Roll. Deerfield intercepted a pass at the blue line getting in free to pull within 1. They tied it on a power play as PREP lost sight of a weak side sleeper. Deerfield then pulled ahead on a sweet tic-tac-toe 3 on 2 to finish the 1st up 3-2. The 2nd was evenly played until PREP took two penalties at the mid point. Just as the 5 on 3 was expiring a long line change allowed a 4 on 1 and Deerfield score.  PREP got their own PP tally at 1:48 as Popp, covering the point, put a shot on net that was rebounded and flipped in by Paglia. More pressure drew 2 Deerfield penalties late on the same play to end the period with PREP down only 4-3.  PREP started the 3rd 5 on 3 but took the entire man-up time to make Deerfield pay as Carroll put back a D’Souza slot shot, evening it at 4.  PREP took the lead on a Behles o-zone draw win to Carbone who slipped it to Dolan at the right ring for the 1 timer. Deerfield immediately got it back on a breakaway after a chip out to tie at 5. Popp then slipped a checker at his blue line starting a 2 on 1 that ended with Wachlin burying a snapper to take the lead once again. With 2 minutes remaining Popp and Wachlin converted a 2 on 2 with a give and go that Popp finished at the post. Deerfield stayed alive picking up a loose puck in the right circle to pull within 1 with 1 remaining. With Deerfield pressuring a long clear was corralled by Carbone who fed Dolan alone in front to ice it with 17 seconds left as PREP held on for the come from behind 8-6 victory.

12-18-11
PREP 3 – CCM 3
Ahead 1 point in the standings with a game in hand, CCM wanted to stay in front of PREP and avenge an early season loss. They came out hot with a quick breakaway that Gaitens stymied. As he tried to gather the loose puck on the arc’s edge it somehow found the goal line for the CCM lead. Play for the rest of the period was up tempo with both teams getting quality chances. However, both goalies were on their game.  CCM started the 2nd period killing a half minute of man down. But their reinforcement was of little help as Peterson held the o-zone line and dumped back deep to Carbone.  Curling to the circle he hit Behles on the far side of the slot for the tie. The remainder of the stanza held plenty of up and back action but no more horns as it ended 1-1.  PREP took the lead in the first minute of the 3rd as Dolan pulled defenders to the boards then found Behles entering the vacated territory for his second. With 8 left, PREP extended on a 2 on 2 plus 1. As the carrying Carbone and supporting Dolan pushed the defenders deep and wide, a sweet drop pass to a trailing Behles alone in the parted sea resulted in some insurance and his hat trick. Good thing the policy was in force as CCM retaliated within 30 seconds then immediately got another that was fortunately disallowed. They pulled even anyway 90 seconds later on a power play to complete the 2 minute offensive comeback. The remaining half dozen minutes were fiercely played but the final result stayed knotted at 3.

12-16-11
PREP 9 – Andrews/Montini  3
PREP maintained their unblemished MIT record in spite of being shorthanded from recent injuries. It took PREP only 30 seconds to score as Mitchell blew up an A/M attacker at the blue line, then poked the puck to a back checking Behles who turned and Hail Mary’d it to Carbone for the breakaway tally.  40 seconds later D’Souza led a 3 on 2, dishing to Wachlin on his left for the drive and roof shot. A nifty Carbone from the corner to Popp in the near circle to Behles at the opposite post sequence added a 3rd. Then, after a Dolan back tap from the corner, Mitchell’s bomb was redirected by Carbone for #4. Behles closed the 1st period 5-0 stunner by head manning to Dolan entering the o-zone, then following to clean up a blocked shot.  A/M made it interesting outscoring PREP 3-1 in the 2nd, one a shorty. Popp started PREP’s lone lamplighter winning a board battle, skating into the right circle then dishing to Wachlin for a 1 timer from the left circle. Barker made several tough saves to keep it from getting closer. The 3rd period was all PREP as first Wachlin, on a 2 on 1, flipped to a solo supporting Popp for a forehand backhand. Then Behles snagged a loose puck behind the A/M goal and slipped it out to the high slot to help finish a Carbone hat trick.  Dolan ended the onslaught, backhanding in a Herrera point blast rebound.

12-14-11
PREP 5 – Conant/Hoffman/Schaumburg 5
PREP met one of their two classic rivals, with the expected physical play coming to fruition as PREP suffered two injuries due to questionable CHS over aggressiveness. Skating 4 on 4 during overlapping penalties, CHS struck first by winning a board battle and getting in close unchecked.  PREP tied it a minute later on the ensuing brief PP as a forechecking Popp poked a puck that got picked up by Wachlin and deposited from the slot. 40 seconds later PREP took the lead as Peterson corralled a weak CHS clear then dumped down to Popp who found Wachlin again. On a PK late, PREP extended as Catalano hit a releasing Popp who powered around the defense and jammed it through the CHS backstop. CHS pulled within 1 in the last minute after a stolen pass at the PREP blue line. In the second, PREP got zippo while CHS scored twice after stolen clearing attempts to lead 4-3. PREP tied it early in the 3rd as a Peterson power play blast from the point was stopped but put back in on a 180 by Carbone. Another PREP d-zone turnover allowed CHS to again take the lead. PREP came back once more as a D’Souza center deflected off Wachlin’s stick right to Vannatta who buried it. PREP then had to defend 4 minutes of shorty time, a minute of which was 5 on 3, after 2 bench penalties. PREP had the last chance as they got a PP for the final 60 seconds of action after a CHS Major, but couldn’t convert to win.

12-10-11
PREP 6 – Libertyville 3
Whether they were tired due to this being the 4th game in 5 days or
because of the extra physical play of the Libertyville squad, PREP was
getting man handled through much of the first period. So much so, they
were already down 2 zip after less than 7 minutes of play. They
finally settled down and mounted a comeback late in the period as Popp
spun out of the deep right corner and found Wachlin just inside the
right ring for a catch and shoot to pull within one. PREP pulled even
early in the second as Deau cycled behind the net to Roll who then
found Wachlin alone again in the slot.  Libertyville would start the
third tied but a man down for a minute 40. PREP took advantage. On a
set piece, Catalano made a drop down pass to Roll on the right side
board. Libertyville gave ground so he entered the circle firing, the
puck hitting then flipping over the goalie for the lead. Shortly
after, Behles skated alone out of the corner and got in a backhander
high near side. He got another on a rebound as a Dolan to Carbone give
and go led to an in tight shot that was initially rejected. Wachlin
finished his second hat trick in as many games with a neutral zone
pickup then give and go with Roll on the resulting 2 on 1.
Libertyville scored in the waning seconds, but it was too little too
late for them.

12-9-11
PREP 6 – Latin 0
PREP traveled to Heartland, encountering an improving Latin team. The
score was not indicative of the even time of possession. Latin
dominated the boards, but PREP was superior where it counted, in the
middle. PREP finally broke the ice at the 5 minute mark as Popp got
tripped on a stuff attempt. Roll slapped at the resulting loose puck
in the crease with Wachlin putting back the rebound over a sprawled
Latin net minder.  A minute later Carbone snagged a rebound off a
Thompson slapper and flipped it home. Wachlin then took a pass from
Catalano off the left boards, marched into the circle and buried a
vicious wrister for a PREP 3-0 lead after one. Latin pretty much owned
the 2nd period as it was played primarily in PREP’s end. But they
couldn’t break through as Gaitens stymied them at every turn with some
impressive acrobatics and the defensive corp clogged the kill zone.
PREP got back on track in the third with their 4th as Popp slipped a
sweet pass from behind the net to a free Behles between the rings. A
minute later Dolan converted a 2 on 1, carrying, keeping, then firing
a high hard one.  PREP finished the scoring on a power play as Popp
passed back to Mitchell at the point. His blast was stopped but
Wachlin crashed and jammed in the rebound to complete his hat trick,
the 3rd PREP forward to record one in 2 games.

12-8-11
PREP 8 – Wheaton Warrenville South 4
A very talented but woefully shorthanded Wheaton Warrenville South
team became the audience for PREP’s magic show as both Dolan and Roll
presented their best hat tricks. And Popp, on his birthday, became the
gift giver instead of receiver, dishing out 4 assists.  WWS started
the scoring early on a freak pop up that bounced off Barker’s back and
in. Dolan quickly got his first to tie on a long wrister, helped by
Vannatta then Carbone. Roll got his first to take the lead on a cross
crease pass from Popp who got it from Mitchell. Roll then got another
aided by Popp and Wachlin. Barker preserved the lead making 2 point
blank saves ending the first. A WWS forward scored the 2nd period’s
first goal weaving around 3 PREP pylons. But PREP retaliated with 3
more in the period as Paglia finished from Carrol and D’Souza, Roll
got his 3rd from Popp, and Dolan got another from Behles and Carbone.
In the last stanza WWS scored first again and maintained good pressure
throughout. Dolan finally got his third from Carrol with 3 minutes
remaining to push the edge. WWS scored one more but PREP finished the
scoring as a Popp shot deflected off a screening Wachlin to complete
the 8-4 victory.

12-6-11
Carmel 3 – PREP 2
PREP visited Carmel with revenge on their mind after giving up 3 goals
in 23 seconds to lose their last match up by one. Unfortunately,
another short period of lost focus doomed them to the same result. The
game was spirited and evenly matched with PREP finally getting a man
advantage in the final minute of the period. Taking a back tap from
Deau, Catalano’s blast from the point found daylight through traffic
with 18 seconds remaining.  Carmel got the big break in the second
with PREP taking a double minor. They didn’t need the time as they
tied it up 30 seconds later. Midway through the 3rd Carbone gave PREP
the lead redirecting a Jasinski slapper from the point. Just as the
game looked to be in hand, PREP made a miscue, allowing a Carmel
attacker alone in front to tie it with 3 minutes remaining. In the
final minute Carmel won a slot scramble and stuffed in the go ahead,
snatching the 3-2 victory from a disappointed PREP squad.

12-3-11
PREP 4 – Bartlett Wheaton West 2
In MIT action PREP traveled to meet a Bartlett Wheaton West team for
the second time in 4 games. This time BWW beefed up their roster and
the results showed it. Popp, fresh off missing 3 games due to illness,
got back in the groove taking a wide blast from Vannatta off the end
boards and flipping it in for the first tally. BWW tied it finding a
lone sniper in front to end the period 1-1. PREP took the lead in the
second converting a 3 on 2. As a supporting Dolan dragged the
defenders deep, Carbone peeled off then found a trailing Behles in the
high slot for an easy finish. Barker then denied the equalizer,
stoning a BWW 2 on 0 after a PREP turnover.  D’Souza extended the lead
late taking a loose puck end to end, skirting two opponents to score
unassisted. PREP led 3-1 after 2. Early in the 3rd BWW pulled within 1
on a gift. Shortly after, Popp bought some insurance picking up a
deflected puck off a D’Souza shot, backhanding it, then putting in his
own rebound. Barker stopped another breakaway late to extinguish any
BWW momentum as PREP closed out the 4-2 victory.

11-19-11
PREP 10 – Cary Grove 3
Cary Grove jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead scoring within the 1st
minute of play as a result of some sloppy PREP defensive end work.
Perhaps this early goal “woke up” the sleeping dog as PREP reeled off
the next 5 goals in the 1st period. Roll scored from Jazinski &
D’Zouza followed by 2 Carbone tallies, both assisted by Mitchell. The
first was a half ice breakaway where Carbone found space through the
goalie’s five hole. Prep’s 4th goal came from Paglia on a rebound put
back of a Jazinski point blast. Vannatta rounded out the 1st period
scoring on passes from Carroll and Catalano. Cary Grove scored early
in the 2nd, which Prep quickly answered by a Fracassi goal on passes
from Mitchell and Carroll. Prep continued to display their team speed
in the 3rd period scoring an additional 4 goals, most on broken plays
and turnovers by Cary Grove. Converting opportunities were Paglia ,
Dolan, Deau and Carroll. Prep was overpowering in this game extending
their win streak to three while playing some sound hockey in all phases.

11-18-11
PREP 4 – Libertyville 2
PREP skated at the rink of a jacked up Libertyville Ice Cats team as
the home team celebrated their efforts to support Breast Cancer
awareness and donate funds for this cause. With a packed house,
Libertyville scored first in the 1st period. At 1:42 Wachlin scored to
even the game at 1-1. Libertyville scored the only goal of the 2nd
period to go into the 3rd period with a 2-1 lead. The 3rd period had
to be one of the most dramatic endings for PREP this year. To start it
Dolan scored off assists from Behles and Carbone to tie the game at
2-2. At the 2:45 mark, Roll took an elbow to the head while a
Libertyville defender was called for covering up a rolling puck in the
crease. PREP had the opportunity to choose a full term 5 on 3 power
play, or a penalty shot and a 2 minute 1 man advantage, which is what
the coaching staff selected.  Wachlin converted on the penalty shot
and then scored again on the power play at 1:01, for his hat trick, to
end the scoring and give Prep a stunning 4-2 victory. A strong showing
of quickness by the forwards and staunch defense resulted in goalie
Gaitens seeing only 13 shots.

11-17-11
PREP 6 – Bartlett Wheaton West 1
Carbone opened the scoring at 7:50 of the 1st period on a delayed
penalty, assisted with some nifty passing by Beheles and Dolan.
Bartlett scored after a face off win late in 1st to end the period
tied at 1. Prep came out flying in the 2nd period using team speed and
some great puck movement to score. Paglia started by taking a  long
pass from Roll on his right wing and beating his defender to the
outside, snapping a shot past the goalie inside the near post. Dolan
then redirected a Behles shot out of mid air past the Bartlett goalie
for a 3-1 PREP lead.  Fracassi followed on a nice feed from Deau and
then Roll fired in an end board rebound off a Wachlin wide shot to
close out the 2nd, giving PREP a 5-1 lead. Dolan scored on a nice
backhand in the 3rd from Behles and Carbone to close out the scoring
and the game. Prep displayed team speed and a strong fore-check that
is key to their continued success.

11-13-11
Carmel 5 – PREP 4
PREP squared off against the highly regarded Carmel team on a Sunday
afternoon. Carmel scored midway through a fast paced 1st period to
take a 1-0 lead. At 4:54 Wachlin blasted a rebound off of a Popp shot
to tie the game at 1-1. After Carmel took the lead PREP bounced back
as Dolan scored from Carbone & Behles with some tic-tac-toe passing to
tie the game at 2 in the 2nd. PREP then had a sudden brain freeze
allowing Carmel to score three straight, 2 on laser shots to finish
the 2nd period with a 5-2 deficit. In the 3rd period PREP mounted a
comeback. At 9:07 Wachlin took a pass from Popp and side stepped a
defender and placed a top shelf shot to make the score 5-3. At 4:46
Roll scored on assists from Jasinski and Carbone to make it 5-4.
Continued pressure through the end of the game couldn’t result in the
equalizer. Though PREP lost it was one their better overall efforts
convincing everyone that they can skate with the better teams.

10-30-11
BGHW 4 – PREP 3
PREP started out controlling the puck but had difficulty getting
quality chances. Letting BGHW hang around cost them. PREP took an o-
zone penalty late in the period, which BGHW immediately made them pay
for.  BGHW then returned the favor in the last minute as Roll was able
to tie it putting back a rebound off a Popp shot. BGHW started the 2nd
with 2 quick ones, one on a failed PREP crease clear and the other
finding an open sniper alone between the rings. Carbone came to the
rescue in the last minute scoring 2 unassisted while skating 4 on 4.
The first on a wrister from the high slot though traffic and the
second on a steal then backhand through the 5 hole. PREP started the
last stanza a man up but couldn’t cash in. BGHW got the lone 3rd
period goal intercepting an outlet pass, getting in alone against
Gaitens who got a piece but not enough. PREP pulled the backstop in
the waning seconds but the equalizer eluded them.

10-29-11
Barrington 6 – PREP 3
PREP finally found some energy as they skated well with a tough
Barrington team. Unfortunately errant passes reduced their counter
play. PREP had the only tally in the first while on a PP as Vannatti
carried out of the zone then found Behles free on the weak side for a
breakaway and roof shot. Barrington struck quickly in the second
blocking a point shot for a breakaway and then converted a power play,
stealing a clearing attempt. Carbone tied it picking up a loose puck
for a 2 on 2, shooting and putting back his own rebound. Barrington
then got a back breaker, winning an o-zone faceoff and getting a
shorty blast with 12 seconds left to take the lead. Barrington
extended in the 3rd on a long slapper then slipped in a wrap around 30
seconds later. Vannatta gave PREP some life late on a knuckle ball
from the blue line but an empty netter in the waning seconds removed
any doubt.

10-26-11
PREP 6 – Fremd 6
Eleven days off should have given PREP the itch. But they started slow
as Fremd seemed a bit quicker. Fremd struck first intercepting a clear
attempt. Carbone tied it chipping around a defender to get a 2 on 1,
finishing himself to end the first 1-1. In the second Fremd got a
shorty followed by a PP rebound put back to go up 3-1. PREP quickly
responded with a ping pong play from Roll to Popp to Wachlin and again
a minute later as a breakout from Vannatta to Thompson to Carbone led
to a successful breakaway.  Fremd then pulled ahead after another
rebound. PREP immediately leap frogged scoring two as Dolan beat a
defender 1 on 1 after a pass from Carbone who go it from Jasinski and
the other by D’Souza during a Fremd crease scramble, aided by Deau.
Fremd tied it early in the 3rd on a PREP turnover then took the lead
on a PP. PREP pulled even on a 5 on 3 advantage as D’Souza slipped it
cross crease to Carbone for his hat trick. Unfortunately PREP’s 5 on 4
power play woes continued as they couldn’t convert with 4 minutes of
man up to end the game.

10-15-11
Conant 5 – PREP 3
Sloppy passing to start by both squads resulted in minimal
opportunities until Conant cashed in as their power play was winding
down. Taking a 1-0 lead into the second they doubled their output late
to enter the 3rd up 2-0. PREP finally woke up as Vannatta buried one
on a pass from Wachlin via Thompson. They then tied the score on a
Wachlin snapper from Popp. PREP gave up the go ahead on a PK but tied
it again on a Dolan put back of a Mitchell blast after receiving it
from Vannatta.  Conant went ahead again at the 2 minute mark and an
empty netter finished off the contest in their favor.

10-12-11
Maine 5 – PREP 2
PREP started the game controlling the puck but weren’t getting shots.
Maine got on the board first putting back a backboard rebound and
started gaining the mo as PREP began to struggle against a better
opponent than recently seen. Wachlin evened it up early in the second
putting back a rebound off a Popp center and Roll shot. Maine then
converted a power play and followed with a successful 2 on 1 to go up
2 after 2. Early in the third Wachlin took a breakout from Jasinski,
powered into the left o-zone, cut right and ripped one under the cross
bar to pull within one. Maine then got free, outbattling a lone
backchecker to get some insurance. A final tally late sealed the deal
for Maine.

10-9-11
PREP 8 – Jacob 0
PREP faced their second undermanned and overmatched team of the young
season with the expected result. 7 different scorers lit the lamp
while the defense kept Jacob opportunities to a minimum. In the first
period Paglia started it by putting back a rebound off a Roll snapper.
Then Roll took a keep in by Jasinski and wristed it home. Fracassi
cashed in a sweet cross crease backhand helper from Carroll. Behles
came out of the corner to get one after a cycle from Dolan. Then
Vannatta crashed from the point and was rewarded by Carbone. In the
2nd Roll went end to end unassisted while later Deau scored on a 2 on
1 pass from Jasinski. Dolan got the lone 3rd period tally on a feed
from Behles. Barker aided his own cause stopping a 2 on 0 after a bad
line change in the 2nd and turning away a point blank Jacob chance
late in the 3rd.

10-8-11
PREP 7- Latin 2
PREP got back on the winning track again against a spirited Latin
team. Popp started it by batting in a fluttering save off a Paglia
shot. Popp later drove deep left, finding and feeding a trailing Roll
in the high slot for a catch and shoot through traffic. Dolan’s 180 in
tight, off a center by Paglia from the corner, finished the 1st period
scoring. Early in the 2nd Dolan got his 2nd redirecting a point shot
by Thompson. Carbone then intercepted in the neutral zone keeping and
scoring unassisted on the resulting 2 on 1.  Latin finally made some
noise putting up 2 late. In the 3rd, Behles was the beneficiary of an
end to end carry and nifty back pass by Vannatta, finishing short side
from the right circle. PREP got the clock running as a Fracassi
forecheck, steal, and center from behind the net found Deau out front
for the one timer. Gaitens had 27 saves in the victory.

10-2-11
Crystal Lake South 9 – PREP 0
PREP’s 4 game winning streak was broken in dramatic fashion.
Outshooting CLS 13 to 9 in a scoreless 1st , it looked as if PREP was
poised to continue their successful ways. Things broke down quickly in
the second, however, as CLS put up a touchdown and extra point on 17
tries to take a 7-0 lead into the 3rd.  A dejected PREP crew couldn’t
get any of their 26 total SOGs past a big CLS net minder while giving
up two more goals late to complete this totally forgettable contest.

9-28-11      PREP 6 – CCM 5
The regular season opener started with PREP slow of foot as they
spotted the Tigers leads of 2-0 after 1 and 4-2 after 2.  Goals by
Paglia from Catalano and by Thompson from Roll kept it within
reach. They found their game in the 3rd scoring 4 unanswered.
Contributions were by Dolan from Behles, Carrol from Paglia, the go
ahead by Popp from Roll, and the empty net winner by Catalano from
Carbone. CCM got the last tally late.  Gaitens had 21 saves

 9-25-11       PREP 5 – Lyons Township 3
PREP advanced to the Consolation game pitted against an unbeaten Lyons team for 3rd place honors in the Leaf Centre Tournament. LT struck first but PREP leap frogged them on a tally by Behles from Popp and a hustle goal by Wachlin from Herrera. Later, Roll helped Popp sandwich a lamplighter between two by Lyons.  PREP took the lead with Carbone finishing from Catalano and Paglia.  Behles iced the contest with his second supported by Carbone and Catalano.

9-25-11     PREP 9 – South Elgin 0
Interesting would not be the proper adjective as a very over matched South Elgin team just couldn’t contain the PREP onslaught. Several different players put the biscuit in the basket, with close to 20 points summed up on the score sheet. This game gave PREP a chance to advance to post pool play, dependant on how tie breakers would fall.

9-24-11     PREP 4 – Warren 3
This second round tournament game saw a more disciplined PREP team take 9 less penalties than game 1. They jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead on goals by Catalano from Carbone and by Popp from Mitchell. Warren snuck one in before two more by PREP, the third by Paglia from Catalano and the 4th by Dolan unassisted. They needed them all as Warren scored two more late to make it interesting. Barker made 20 tough saves.

9-23-11     Glenbard 4 – PREP 1
The 2011/2012 HS hockey season started with a warmup tourney at the Leaf Centre. PREP’s latest edition started quick with an unassisted goal by Vinny Carbone. But sloppy play on both sides ensued with PREP generously giving back 6 power play opps, 3 resulting in Glenbard PP goals after getting their man back. A final GB tally sealed the result for a disappointing opener.

PREP   4   Fenwick   2
Fenwick must have thought it was Friday night fights in the cold Carol Stream rink. To PREP's credit the boys played hockey and did not sink to Fenwick's level of play. It was a tight contest through 2 periods although PREP had many more scoring chances. With PREP trailing 2-1 late in the third Tony Gattuso scored to tie it at 2. A few minutes later Justin Escalona put home the game winner. Fenwick pulled there goalie in the closing minute and Tommy Rhyan got the empty netter.

Carmel   8   PREP  4
Carmel played their game and took PREP off their's. PREP counts on getting the puck in deep, solid forechecking and tough team defense, none of which was on display Saturday night. Carmel is averaging just over 2 goals a game all season and PREP has allowed 5 and 8 in the last two meetings. Its unfortunate that their first bad game in a while came in round one of the playoffs. The good news it is a double elimination tourney and the boys can get back to basics and get on a roll. Dellanina and Charnota each scored twice.

Crystal Lake South  4      PREP 1

Facing a physical opponent in CLS, PREP fell behind early and was unable to mount a comeback. Down 4-0 in the second Chris Mourousias worked hard down low and scored. Chris has been improving his game all season long. He's a fast skater who knows how to forecheck, a great combination. PREP continued to press and got some chances but nothing went in. Shots on goal and scoring opportunities were about even on the night.

PREP   2    Libertyville  1
As the season winds down the games are getting more physical. Some of the recent opponents may have been hitting outside the rules. It was another hard fought game tonight and PREP did not back down. The boys are standing up for each other and that is great to see. The biggest hit of the night came with 38 seconds to play, Joe Dellanina scored to give PREP the victory. Take that Libertyville!

PREP  8    Carmel  5
Carmel scored 2 quick goals for an early lead. Carmel managed to keep things close all night long but it seemed like PREP was in control with all 4 lines skating hard. Morrison got things started for PREP on the powerplay from Marchisotto. Kelly tied it at 2 each after hard work by Winnick and Charnota set him up. Gattuso's goal gave PREP the lead 3-2. On the play, nice passing by Escalona and Rhyan drew the Carmel defense down low and allowed Tony some space to move in and score. Tuccori scored on a rebound from Winnick's shot. By the way, Winnick scored on Saturday at the Senior night game. Winnick's been a bull along the boards using his size and strength to win plenty of 1 on 1 battles. In the second Escalona intercepted a pass and scored unassisted. Kelly scored again making it 6-4 PREP after 2. Tommy Rhyan drove home a slapper on the powerplay for some breathing room. Kelly got his hat trick on an empty net in the final minute to cement the victory.

1/21/12
PREP   3    FREMD  1

For the second Saturday in a row PREP dominated Fremd. The 3-1 final was not indicative of the control PREP displayed throughout the game. The 4 man defensive rotation has been very good at pinching on the points and keeping the puck in the offensive zone. Tommy Rhyan opened the scoring  in a first period that saw a shots on goal difference of 15-3 !  Kelly scored from in tight on the power play assists going to Schulte and Morrison. The final goal came off DeForte's stick also on the power play. I don't know who got assists, Escalona, Rhyan, Panos and O'Neill were all on the ice and everyone touched the puck displaying good teamwork. The Fremd goalie did a great job off keeping the score close, PREP had plenty of good chances from all 4 lines.

1/22/12
Highland Park   4    PREP  0
PREP played a skilled opponent pretty close all game but just could not find the back of the net.  Shots on goal were pretty even throughout the game as were the good scoring chances. The H/P goalie came up big when called upon and the received a few breaks too. Tim Kraske moved back to defense and didn't miss a beat, breaking up a couple of promising rushes by H/P. Joey Dellanina was the best player on the ice all night long. He was aggressive on the forecheck and created a number of scoring opportunities for himself and his linemates. Even though the score says 4-0, the game was much closer against a quality opponent.

1/12/2012

 PREP 4   BGHW   4
Too many penalties was a problem in the prior game, a 4-4 tie with AMF. This evenings contest saw PREP taking too many penalties again, but being able to score shorthanded twice. The first came from Mike Charnota, off a great hustle play and feed from Chris Mourousias. The second shorty of the period saw Vinnie Marchisotto find the back of the net. The play was made on a 2 on 1 with DeForte looking off the defensemen and goalie. The 4th goal, from DeForte, came off a steal from Schulte with Kelly assisting too. PREP couldn't hold a 4-2 lead in the third despite solid goaltending by Mike Bailey. BGHW tied it in the final minute with their goalie pulled. Its too bad because there were multiple chances to clear the zone.

1/14
PREP  3    FREMD  1
Vinnie Marchisotto scored twice in the first period. The first came from a hard blue line slapper after a clean face-off win by Joey Dellanina. His second was unassisted, going end to end and beating the goalie shortside. Fremd's only goal came on a powerplay and was the result of too many penalty killers(3) caught up ice. Final SOG was 37-15, the boys really outskated a shorthanded Fremd squad. The Dellanina-Tuccori-Winnick line had an exceptionally strong game. Most of their ice time was spent in the offensive zone. They have really bought into getting the puck in deep and playing the body making it hard on the opposition to exit the zone. Evan Toczyl put the game out of reach with PREP's third goal on a rebound of a Charnota shot. Eric Roach was strong between the pipes.

1/15
PREP  5   St. Pats  1
PREP played a strong, in a scoreless first period vs a St. Pats team that has dominated us in previous meetings. Michael Charnota scored our first goal from behind the net, banking it in off the goalie. His older brother (PREP 2006-2011) claims to have taught him that move. With the game still tight Vinnie was robbed on great point blank save by the St. Pats netminder. Trevor Morrison scored from Kelly making it 2-0 . Next shift out Kelly scored from Schulte restoring a 2 goal lead, 3-1 PREP. The line of Morrison-Kelly-Schulte has been a scoring machine since the Winter Classic. Kelly and Schulte are good passers and Morrison has speed to burn. All 3 support each others positioning on the ice, they've accounted for 7 goals in the last 5 games. Tim Kaske who has moved up from defense to offense because of injury got the 4th goal off a 3 man rush with Rhyan and DeFrote getting assists. Tommy Rhyan closed the scoring with 3 seconds to go. A very well played game for PREP. Its been a real joy seeing the game by game improvement of this club. Keep moving forward boys

12-11-2011
PREP 2 - Carmel 0
The first period saw Carmel skating hard and out shooting PREP 11 to 6. The power play unit of Rhyan,Schulte and Winnick gave PREP the lead as Alex scored from the slot. The game stayed tight through the second. Bailey made a nice shoulder save to preserve the shutout. Gattuso played a strong game on the back end, intercepting many passes in the neutral zone and skating the puck in. PREP out shot Carmel 20 to 9 after the first period, and 26 to 20 for the game. With 1:12 to play Kelly was in the right place at the right time to seal the victory. 2-0 PREP

11/29/2011
PREP 3  BGHW 3
Was that the same BG/H/W team that blew out PREP 5-0 earlier this month? Yes it was, but it was a different PREP team they ran into. It was a PREP team that skated with enthusiasm and applied pressure all night. The first period was pretty close. Kelly made a nice steal in the offensive zone but PREP did not convert. 1-0 BG end of one. In the second, Charnota led a 2 on 1 but we were again denied. Bailey came up with a point blank save to keep things close. From that point on it was all PREP. Marchisotto went end to end but his shot sailed high into the goalie's glove. On the ensuing face-off Dellanina to Winnick connected to tie the game at one.  In the third on the power play, Rhyan was left alone in the slot and drilled home a good pass from Marchisotto. PREP kept the pressure on, out shooting BG/H/W 9 to 1 the first four minutes of the third and 17 to 8 for the period. PREP couldn't hold a late lead as BG/H/W scored on the power play with their goalie pulled in the final minute. This was the best game of the year. Everyone played the body and finished checks. The second and third periods were played in the offensive end. For the game PREP had 38 shots on goal! Well done guys.

11/16/2011
Lake Zurich  5   PREP 2

Visiting the old Sports Complex brought back lots of memories. It also made me appreciate that most of PREP's action is at West Meadows or Hoffman Estates. The ice was wet and slow through most of the first period, but the speaker system was louder than ever. The Bears jumped out to an early 2-0 lead . PREP tried to stay close but never got within 2 goals. Lake Zurich had twice as many shots on goal and played a solid game.

11/18/2011
PREP  6    Fremd   4
PREP came out and dominated play all night long. No one took a shift off and while the outcome was in doubt from time to time, it was obvious that PREP was the better team on Friday. Credit Fremd with scoring some timely goals and keeping things close longer than it should have been. Fremd tried to be physical and won their share of battles along the boards, but they also took it too far on occasion and were penalized for it. The PREP power play made them pay in the third period. Most of the game was played in Fremd's end, it was a good effort by all.

11/7/2011
BG/W/H  5          PREP  0

This was a mostly forgettable performance. Some very good players on the other team kept them in control overnight. Still, a little more effort on PREP's part might have led to a better game. We were out shot by a 2 to1 margin.

11/8/2011
HP Giants  2     PREP  0
A much better game tonight. The Giants had some talented players but PREP skated hard all night and were tough to play against. Eric Roach played well in net. As the game progressed PREP made more passes and got some good chances.  Charnota and Escalona had a couple of nice plays but were not able to find the back of the net. All the wingers stepped up and pressed on the forecheck making it tough on the Giants. Shots on goal were even, a pretty good game regardless of the outcome.

11/3/2011
PREP  4    Glenbard  3
What a difference a day makes. All the lines skated hard in what was the best fore-checking night of the season. The continued pressure made it difficult for a skilled Glenbard team to set up. In the first period Vinnie Marchisotto started the scoring putting a wicked wrister on the top shelf off a 5 on 3 power play.  A minute later Tony Gattuso  finished the power play with a goal from in tight. In the second, Brian Kelly scored from the slot of a clean face-off win by his center. Glenbard tied it in the third and both teams gave themselves chances with good passing and hard skating. Finally, with less than a minute to go Jimmy Panos drilled a slapper from the blue line for the game winner. It was PREP's best game of the season and was great to see all the boys bounce back from the night before.

11/2/2011
St. Pats   9     PREP   2
This game was ugly from start to finish. St. Pat's had some good skaters and played a solid team game but they are not 7 goals better than PREP. Blind passes, offsides and sloppy line changes led to a one-sided affair with PREP being out shot 2 to 1. On a positive note Joe Dellanina made a great pass to Evan Toczyl to start the scoring. In the second period Justin Escalona's pass from in deep allowed Michael Charnota to light the lamp.

10/22/2011
AWF  2   PREP  1
A fast paced game saw PREP get edged  2-1 Saturday afternoon. Goalie Mike Bailley and the AWF netminder put on a clinic, each stopping many tough chances. PREP had all four lines rolling and kept the pressure up to the very end. Tommy Rhyan scored shorthanded for PREP. The forcheck was solid most of the game making it tough for AWF to move the puck into our zone.  We were in the box a little too often for the second day in a row but overall it was a well played game by both teams.

10/21/2011
CCM 6   PREP  1
PREP stayed close early with a strong CCM team.  CCM was only able to muster one power  play goal in the first period. Vinnie Marchisotto played  a great game and was particularily strong in front of the net limiting CCM chances all night. Brian Kelly and Michael Charnota worked a nice passing play on the power play but in the end were denied a score by CCM's goalie. A few too many penalties limited the 5 on five action but our penalty kill was good. Short handed in the third CCM won the draw and slid a pass back to the point for a shot, Bobby Schulte hustled to block it, and Joe Dellanina picked up the carom, he made a perfect feed to Tony Gattuso who hit the post, almost a shorty. Gattuso would not be denied with less than a minute to play he scored to break the shutout

10/19/2011
 Niles 6 PREP 4
A big Niles team used its size to skate past PREP 6-4 Wednesday night. Niles started quickly and demonstrated what a good passing team is capable of, scoring 4 first period goals, all from in tight. PREP tried to hang with them and was the beneficiary of many power plays and was down 4-2 after one. Niles continued to show composure with the puck but also continued to take penalties to keep things interesting. PREP's forecheck was spotty all night limiting their comeback chances. The boys played hard against a good team and they look to rebound Friday

11/16/2011
PREP 2 Carmel 2

Most of the play in the first period was controlled by Carmel. Goalie Michael Bailey kept things close with some solid play. Toward the end of the first Tony Gattuso scored on a power play.  The second and third periods were pretty even with both teams playing a tight defensive game. Tommy Rhyan tied the game off a perfect pass from the corner. The breakout plays and overall passing was better for PREP as the game progressed but they were unable to notch the game winner.

Game one on Friday night saw a short bench give a good effort vs OPRF.  The game was tight after one period, 0-0.  OPRF played a strong second period and took control with a 5-1 lead. The final period was played pretty even as the boys continued to play hard.  Final score OPRF 7  PREP 1

Game two had plenty of highlights in a back and forth battle vs Lyons Township. The scoring started as Tony Gattuso pinched from the left point and slid a nifty pass to Justin Escalona who scored from in tight.  Escalona struck again on the power play for PREP's second score.  With the game tied at 3, #74 and Patrick Tuccori worked a beautiful give and go to give PREP a 4-3 lead. Goalie Eric Roach stopped a penalty shot to preserve the lead after one. The teams traded goals in the second period. In the third period, Tommy Rhyan broke a 5-5 tie with a backhander off a penalty shot, and added another goal later in the period for a 7-6 PREP lead with 7:00 minutes to play. LT came back in the closing minutes to win it 9-7.

In game three PREP was playing with a full squad for the first time. The team played its best game of the tourney limiting Warren's scoring chances with solid team play.  Defensemen  Jack O'Neill opened the scoring with a power play goal. Joey Dellanina added a goal in the second period. The third period saw a Tommy Rhyan slap shot find the back of the net from the blueline. O'Neill concluded the PREP scoring as he rushed up ice through a bad Warren line change, 4-2 PREP. Credit Warren with playing tough down the stretch and score 2 late goals to forge a tie, 4-4. Strong team play and much improved passing in this game have everyone thinking this could be the beginning of a great season.
